Whether March comes in like a lion and sneaks out like a little lamb makes no difference to the turn of the wheel of the yearly calendar that holds the first day of spring at the end of this month no matter. The Spring Equinox traditionally falls on the 21st day of March and marks a time that acknowledges and honors all life that is now blooming and burgeoning with new growth. Shoots of flowers begin to peak through previously frozen earth while eggs, an ancient symbol of fertility and new life, begin to be seen as decoration everywhere. You can decorate wooden eggs or even go ahead and hollow out eggshells and fill them with symbols of springtime like fresh lavender, green grass or pansies and perfume. In fact, the incredibly edible egg is THE symbol most associated with Spring Equinox according to some legend and lore surrounding same. It's believed that a randy rabbit (is here any other kind?) so wished to please Eostre, the German goddess of spring and the dawn) that he placed beautifully decorated eggs all around the land in her honor and celebration.
Feng Shui uses an egg ritual to right your life while asking that any negativity, bad vibes or even worse luck be banished.
Red Egg Rebirth (taken from the wisdom and writings of His Holiness Grandmaster Lin Yun):
Expel bad luck and replace it with abundance, opportunity, health, happiness and prosperity but using a Feng Shui ritual that was designed to banish ill Chi while replacing it with positive energies. This cure can actually symbolize a type of spiritual rebirth much the same as the energies of this Spring Equinox represent as well. It is said that if you enact this cure that all sadness and negativity will be purged so you should try your best to perform this adjustment on major anniversary times of each year.
Get a fresh carton of eggs at the store but be very sure not to let ANYONE see them once they have been purchased. On any day between the auspicious hours of 11-1 (but to do this on Spring Equinox takes on added oomph and importance) boil the eggs. Do this COMPLETELY ALONE. While the eggs are boiling say the all important magical mantra that Feng Shui calls the Three Secrets Reinforcement by chanting OM MANI PADME HUM. Now, in the palm of your hand mix any red spice (paprika works well) with drops of dark rum that equal your age plus one. So, if I'm 29 then I would mix 30 drops in my palm. Blend the mix with your middle finger. Then, roll a hard boiled egg in the palm of your hand before placing the now red egg on a WHITE napkin. Rub both of your palms together until they are dry visualizing all your bad luck and fortunes now leaving you. ONLY the good stuff stays. Carry the egg outdoors and crack it lightly so you can gently and gingerly peel the shell off. Be sure to keep ALL of the shell in a paper bag and also be sure not to drop any of it. See the egg as being higher than table height and envision the shell as you might an old cocoon that is being shed. As it sheds so does your bad fortunes. Now, imagine that a new healthy, happy and prosperous shell is forming around you returning you to your original state of wonder and grace. Like a new born. You are reborn. Eat a part of the yolk of the egg white, or, if you wish, eat the entire egg. Throw some of it to the four directions visualizing he egg feeding 'the hungry ghosts' so that they go away delighted and satisfied. Crush the rest of the eggshells and scatter them to the four directions as well all the while imagining that you are scattering your bad luck to be transformed. Now being very careful not to step on any of the shells go ahead and chant that sacred mantra nine more times and then be on your very merry way! Good luck and great fortunes are heading to you as I write. Eggsactly what we wanted!
